The Ivy Community Service Foundation, Inc. is the 501 (c) (3) nonprofit tax-exempt arm of the Sigma Tau Omega (STO) Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
Founded in 1998, the Ivy Community Service Foundation allows contributors and supporters to make tax-deductible contributions. These contributions fund academic and need-based educational scholarships and community service programs in the following target areas: the arts, economics, education, health and strengthening the black family.
The Ivy Community Service Foundation has donated over $50,000 in academic and need-based scholarships as well as supported local organizations, including the Mission House for Women and the Divine Country Manor Home for Seniors. In 2006, high school seniors living or attending school in Western Wake County received over $10,000 in scholarships and book awards.
The Foundation^s largest community service program is the annual Minority Business Expo. In its fourth year, the event is held to identify and support minority and women owned businesses, as well as showcase various areas of the arts. In 2006, the event grew by 50% when it moved to the Kerr Scott building on the campus of the North Carolina State Fairgrounds.
